CERAMENT™ is an innovative platform of products used to manage bone voids and gaps created by trauma, infection, disease or surgery, vertebral compressions, fractures and osteomyelitis (infection).

CERAMENT™ is a synthetic bone substitute, which mimics natural bone, providing short-term support for fractures and bone voids with rapid pain relief and stabilization, as well as longer-term osteoconductive support that allows for new bone formation within 6 to 12 months.

CERAMENT™lBONE VOID FILLER is intended for orthopedic applications as a filler for gaps and voids, whereas CERAMENT™lSPINE SUPPORT is intended for use in the stabilization of vertebral compression fractures in the vertebral body . The newest product is CERAMENT™lG, which contains the antibiotic Gentamicin . CERAMENT™|G is the first injectable bone substitute containing an antibiotic to protect and promote bone healing in the management of osteomyelitis (bone infection).

In Dec 2013 the second antibiotic (vancomycin as antibiotic) loaded CERAMENT product – CERAMENT™lV - was filed to BSI. The launch is expected to be in Jan/Feb 2015.

Research and Development Engineer, Biomaterial TILLSATT
The position

We are looking for an engaged, dedicated and self motivated person with high quality standards. You will work in an international team, with 4 team members, and in close collaboration with the production and marketing departments. You will report directly to the Head of R&D.

Your main task will be laboratory work with development of existing as well as new products. You will also handle quality related questions from either production or the customers. BONESUPPORT is a Med Tech company and therefore has high regulatory requirements on quality and documentation.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Mainly laboratory work
• Plan, perform and report laboratory studies/investigations including verifications, validations and stability studies
• Quality related work, e.g QC-tests of products and calibration/maintenance of instruments
• Synthetic chemistry and sintering
• Projects from laboratory to pilot scale and further to production
• Establish and develop analytical and test methods
• Problem solving
Support Production and Market
Demonstrate and educate internal and external people visiting the lab

Qualifications and education

• MSc in Engineering in chemistry, biotechnology, nano science or materials specialization; or have acquired similar knowledge
• Biomedical Analyst (BMA) or a biomedical scientist/technologist with similar competence in the area of material science, physics with material specialization, biomaterials/ceramic materials
• English and Swedish, additional languages is an advantage

Experience and knowledge

• Experience from material science/ceramic materials/powder technology
• Experience from laboratory work
• Experience from GLP/Quality work etc is an advantage
• Experience from using different analyses instruments incl programming is an advantage
• Medical device experience is an advantage
• Knowledge of rheology is an advantage
• Experience of using Microsoft Office
