Episurf Medical AB, founded as a spin-off from Diamorph AB in 2009, is a Swedish medical technology company aimed at helping people with painful joints to live a more active life by providing them with effective and individualized treatments. The patient-specific technology is developed in conjunction with top universities and clinical centres in Europe. Several short- and long-term pre-clinical studies were performed during 2009-2011 in order to verify the performance of the implants and to improve the functionality of the surgical technology. These studies were done in collaboration with Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (The Royal Institution of Technology), orthopaedic surgeons at the Karolinska University Hospital, Charité University Hospital of Berlin and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
The Episurf idea focuses on the fact that every patient is unique. Given the extraordinary mechanical stress to which human joints are subject, surgical precision of the utmost degree is essential.  This can only be achieved consistently and safely by adapting a new approach in personalized healthcare. The market potential for a method to repair limited cartilage damage that provide better treatment results than existing alternatives such as micro-fracturing is estimated to have a potential of $980 million in the U.S. alone. Orthopaedic surgeons around the world feel that there is a treatment gap for the treatment of early osteoarthritis. 70% of surgeons feel that there is a lacking of procedure that provide pain relief, provides an alternative to osteotomi / UKA / TKA and allows significant reduction of pain medication.
A successful concept benefits to the community through an alternative to invasive surgery with subsequent long rehabilitation, less time to be able to return to work and, allow sport / exercise to prevent obesity.

The position – a demanding and rewarding global position
The company has a lean organisation comprising ten staff, which includes technical/clinical development, QA, sales/marketing, finance and production.
The company now needs to appoint a Sales & Marketing Director (SMD) with the main responsibility to lead the sale & marketing organisation forward. The role is placed at the Episurf headquarters in Stockholm.
The SMD will take responsibility for creating and take an active part in the development of the sales & marketing organisation for the existing and coming CE-labelled products. Your first important task will be to, in collaboration with the management team, create a business plan for Europe containing an implementation/launch strategy. The marketing/sale strategy will probably be country/area specific meaning direct selling in some countries, through distributors or through partnership with other companies in other countries. Currently our main geographically areas are the Nordic’s and the large countries in the rest of Europe. Going forward other regions and markets may be added to the responsibility.
Key responsibilities will range from setting up local sales team taking care of the direct sales to identifying distributors, distributor management and support, potential partnerships, forecasting, key opinion leader management, exhibiting in connection to international key meetings for clinicians and distributors, application training of partners and to motivate, coach and direct distributors and their local sales team.
It is pivotal that the SMD understand the full value chain and assess strategic and commercial requirements to develop and support the company’s business objectives, with the view to growing sales and aligning functional expertise across the organisation.
This position will have full P&L responsibility with support from other functions as, supply, QA, regulatory and the rest of the management. This position will be included in Episurf’s management team.

Episealer® Knee Trochlea is an implant consisting of both peg and hat in one piece. The implant is made of Cobalt Chrome alloy with Titanium and Hydroxyapatite coated surfaces and a polished top surface. The Episealer® Knee Trochlea is available in different circular sizes, whereas the topography and thickness of the articular surface have a patient unique design. It does not matter where in the trochlea the injury is located since the Episealer® is a customized device tailored to each patient’s anatomy.

Qualifications
This pivotal role within Episurf requires a professional individual whose qualities and experience include the following parameters:
Requirement (must have):
BA or MSc in Technical/Natural Sciences, Business Administration or equivalent.
Extensive international experience from the MedTech industry – with a focus on orthopaedic device. This should include previous sales success.
Documented strong international network amongst orthopaedic surgeons
Managed and developed third party distributors and new channels to market
Have created, evaluated and implemented business strategies and successfully grown sales.
Experience from pre/per and post launch.
Documented experience from negotiating strategic alliances with external stakeholders.
Gained a solid understanding of the market requirements to facilitate and develop relevant tools and programmes, such as international advisory boards and VIP/KOL programmes, based on market needs and aligned with global strategy.
Desirably (nice to have):
Experience from direct reporting staff
Management team experience
Experience and an understanding of what it means to work in smaller companies with strong development potential
Knowledgeable concerning Europe’s different reimbursement systems
