Compliance Officer

Main purpose of the position
The Compliance Officers primary function is to "see" across departments, boundaries, etcetera to recognize emerging trends and weaknesses within the control system and to manage and coordinate the Quality Management System (QMS) implementation.

The Compliance Officer reports to the General Manager GSK Sweden and a dotted line to the European Compliance Officer. The position is office based at the GSK Swedish headquarters in Solna.

Key areas of responsibility
• QMS champion; manage and coordinate the QMS implementation

• Assessing at appropriate frequencies the compliance risks to which the country is exposed to ensure that the local country management team is responsive to these risks

• Establishing and communicating GSK’s commitment to high standards of legal and ethical conduct to all employees and agents in the form of the GSK Policies, including the Code of Conduct, and Pharmaceuticals Europe policies

• Implementing training and communication as necessary for:
a) relevant policies, procedures, and standards;
b) Helpline; and
c) in selected areas of focus determined by the EET and local country management

• Ensuring compliance with, and preventing and detecting violations of, applicable law in the local country

• Ensuring that monitoring and auditing systems are capable of detecting significant instances or patterns of illegal or unethical conduct by employees or agents

• Managing the internal reporting processes including a local Integrity Helpline to ensure that country employees and agents can report ethics and compliance concerns without fear of retaliation

• With the Legal, Human Resources, and Audit functions, ensure that reported concerns are promptly and thoroughly investigated, recommend suitable remediation and discipline when appropriate, and periodically summarise findings for the European Compliance Officer, the Country Risk Management and Compliance Board (RMCB) and the Pharma Europe RMCB

• Preparing and presenting regular reports on the country compliance programme to the local country management team and the European Compliance Officer

• Review and approve commercial/marketing material within the company and represent the company in NBL (Nämnden för Bedömning av Läkemedelsinformation).

• Supporting the country RMCB by preparing agendas, strategies, plans, and reports on implementation for review and consideration by the RMCB

• Promote ‘best practice’ risk management within the country by:
a) Conducting risk management workshops and other training to facilitate the identification of significant risks, development of mitigation plans against GSK significant risks and other risks critical to the country and/ or Pharmaceuticals Europe
b) Facilitating the completion of risk maps for significant risks and communicating these to the European Compliance Officer
c) Reviewing internal audits of the country’s significant risks and ensuring response to critical findings

The role holder will work with the country management team and be capable of influencing senior line managers of the importance of compliance and reduction of exposure to risk. The role has a matrix reporting structure with a solid line to the country General Manager and a dotted line to the European Compliance Officer. The person will need to determine which (if not all) of the currently identified Pharmaceuticals Europe business risks apply to the country and then monitor and test for appropriate compliance.

A solid experience from a Compliance Officer role or equivalent within the Life science industry.

Leadership and people management skills, as demonstrated by a track record of success in managing/influencing people, the ability to improve processes and a proven track record of effective delegation, coaching and supervising

Interpersonal and communication skills, as demonstrated by the ability to build relationships based on trust and integrity. Easily and convincingly communicate and interact at all levels within and outside the organisation and by a high level of personal flexibility and sensitivity.

The ability to pursue and achieve results, as demonstrated by a track record of success in managing change, effectively implementing plans and decisions (this may be against resistance).

The ability to direct and motivate people even without formal line management, the creativity to identify workable solutions and approaches for new problems combined with adherence to stringent professional, ethical and moral standards and last but no means least the drive to excel and make things happen.

Conceptual and strategic skills, as demonstrated by the ability to quickly grasp and fully understand complex issues. To formulate a vision and to pursue it via clearly developed strategies and individual action plans. Thorough understanding of the different functions within the organisation and their requirements. The full understanding of overall corporate strategy and the ability to translate it into a compliance strategy.
