EQL Pharma (EQL), founded in 2006, is an entrepreneurial pharmaceutical company focusing on simplicity and efficiency at all levels of the value chain in order to be able to deliver cost-efficient medicines of highest quality to pharmacies and hospitals, primarily in the Nordic region. EQL is based in Lund, Sweden, employs 6 people and is listed on AktieTorget.

EQL is specialised in developing and selling generics, i.e. drugs that are medically equivalent to the original medicines. EQL conducts extensive development in cooperation with leading contract manufacturers and major pharmaceutical companies in countries such as India and China.

Our entire business is based on us delivering the cheapest medicines to pharmacies and hospitals, in this way daily lowering the cost of high-quality drugs for patients and society.

Our strategy is to develop generic medicines in areas where the competition is limited, so-called niche generics. We do not focus on specific therapeutic areas, but rather on the opportunities we can identify in the Nordic market for prescription medicines sold in pharmacies or used in hospitals.

EQL has a portfolio of 8 products and an extensive pipeline of niche generics, i.e. products where the majority today completely lack competition.

In September 2015, an agreement with Cadila Pharmaceutical Ltd (Cadila) was announced to the public. The agreement with Cadila means an in-depth collaboration for niche generics. To start with, 8 new products are being developed, with launch planned from 2H 2018 and onwards. The products will be sold by EQL in its main markets and will be licensed to other markets.

Business Developer TILLSATT

Ditt huvudansvar blir bl.a. att hitta nya produkter och marknader, hålla dig uppdaterad om konkurrenter, patent etc. Resor, ca 20 % per år, ingår i tjänsten framförallt till Indien, Kina och relevanta kongresser samt möten.

The Position

The main responsibility as
Business Developer is to (i) expand the product portfolio of niche generics and (ii) evaluate new market segments and new potential territories. Factors to consider for individual products are e.g. market size, number of competitors, patent situation, and the likelihood to be included in the List of Substitutable Medicinal Products. Special focus initially will be on finding new niche generics in China for introduction into the Nordics. Another theme will be to evaluate which products are interesting enough to develop from scratch, this can be the case when we have identified an interesting product, but no-one can offer it for out-licensing. When licensing or new development opportunities are identified, negotiations with possible external partners could also be part of the responsibility, as well as discussions with experts about interchangeability.

The role also includes evaluation of new possible markets for already established products. Furthermore, support will be given to Cadila in market analysis in preparation for introduction of their products on the European market, either by partnering with EQL, or with other companies.

The role requires a strong business focus with a good understanding of the Nordic and European marketplace and an organised, accurate, and pro-active way of working. As the company is small, you must have a "can do" attitude and not be afraid to roll up your sleeves. The Business Developer reports to the CEO at EQL.

Responsibilities and main tasks

• Identify business opportunities to buy or in-license new pharmaceutical products to develop EQL´s portfolio of niche generics for the Nordic market, in close cooperation with CEO
• Identify business opportunities to develop new markets in Europe for existing EQL niche generics
• Identify new business areas for EQL such as new territories or new market segments
• Create, by means of excel models, business cases for all new products and other business opportunities and update these business cases when new data emerges
• Support Cadila with market information in preparation of entering the Nordic and European markets
• Gather and analyse pharmaceutical market information e.g. from data listings, statistics, company listings, with focus initially on Chinese products and new developmental projects
• Build a professional network of contacts, and market EQL as a competent and interesting business partner
• Manage and drive multiple parallel sessions of discussions, information gatherings and negotiations with partners in India, China and elsewhere for new potential products
• Assist in managing out-licensing queries and discussions
• Negotiate and drive business contracts with possible partners
• Participate in international conferences


• BSc or MSc in e.g. economics, natural sciences or engineering with an interest in health care
• 5 years experience from pharmaceutical or medtech industry in business development, sales, marketing or similar
• Knowledge of the Nordic health care market
• Understanding of European pharmaceutical marketplace
• Fluent in oral and written Swedish and English
• IT skills
