AstraZeneca in Oncology
Oncology is one of the three core therapy areas within the company with a strong and growing pipeline and the prime objective within Oncology is to re-build and strengthen the company’s capabilities in the field.

AstraZeneca’s current strategy and pipeline contains a range of novel products and therapies meeting unmet needs in the market, across large and small molecules including an industry-leading portfolio of Immune Mediated Therapies to treat cancer.

Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer worldwide, with approximately 1.8 million cases diagnosed and 1.69 million deaths each year. Only 16% of patients are diagnosed when the tumour is still localised to the lung and for those patients diagnosed at a later stage, the prognosis is especially poor. As such, AstraZeneca is prioritising lung cancer research to address the significant unmet need for treatments at every stage of the disease continuum. Our focus is primarily on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which accounts for 80 to 85 percent of all lung cancer cases globally. We also have ongoing research in small cell lung cancer (SCLC), an area of high unmet need, which makes up the remaining 15 to 20 percent of cases.

Following launch of TAGRISSO (osimertinib) and IMFINZI (durvalumab), there is a plan for subsequent launches of new compounds and new indications. The pipeline includes many new drugs that make AstraZeneca uniquely positioned to combine agents within and between key scientific mechanisms. Please refer to appendix 2 for more information about the Oncology pipeline.

AstraZeneca Nordic is in a process of significantly increasing its resources in Oncology. We are now recruiting a Strategic Account Manager for Norway. For more information please visit
